A metal tube (1) is lodged in a sheath (2) of high quality refractory material and thermocouples (3) are mounted at regular intervals along this tube. The sheath (2) is surrounded by a metal envelope (4) and the assembly is slid into a sleeve (5) arranged in the lining (6) of the metallurgical container. A neutral gas (7) may be blown into the tube (1) to prevent the penetration of liquid metal into the tube. The equipment for putting this procedure into operation is also claimed.
