A drum can rotate around a horizontal axis. The cylindrical surface of the drum is unbroken from the input end of the drum to a point at a certain distance along the drum and is perforated from that point to the output end of the drum. The drum contains appts. for tearing. The mixed material enters the input end. Coarse material emerges at the output end, and finely divided material emerges through the perforations. The perforated region is enclosed by two frustoconical hoods mounted on the drum. The wide ends of the hoods face each other and are separated by a gap through which the fine material emerges.
