PURPOSE:To provide a pressure-sensitive copying material free of toxicity and unpleasant small, having a high color forming speed and capable of copying clear images with high density, comprising a layer of microcapsules in which a compound obtained by adding an alkyl group to a specified fraction of by- products in production of ethylbenzene is contained as a solvent for a color former. CONSTITUTION:A compound obtained by adding a 1-4C alkyl group (e.g., isopropyl or butyl) to a fraction having a boiling point reduced to a normal temperature basis of 255-300 deg.C of the by-products in the production of ethylbenzene from ethylene and benzene is used as a solvent for a color former, in a pressure-sensitive copying material comprising an electron-acceptive color developer and a layer of microcapsules containing an electron-donative color former and a solvent, thereby obtaining the objective copying material. Ordinarily, the fraction consists mainly of diphenylalkane (e.g., diphenylmethane), and the alkyl adduct preferably has a boiling point reduced to a normal pressure basis of 275-330 deg.C. |
