The invention relates to an electrical resistor and its method of manufacture. This resistor comprises a thin metal plate 12 to the opposite ends of which are fixed two connecting conductors 18, 20. Notches or slots 14, 16 are made in the lateral edges of this plate so as to establish a current conduction path whose working length depends on the depth and separation of the said notches. The latter can be cut out by means of a laser beam which, at the same time, anneals the metal of the plate and thus stabilises its electrical characteristics. Field of application: manufacture of electrical power resistors of low value, etc. <IMAGE>
