Device for the transportation and distribution of powder or granular material, comprising a container under pressure (1) containing the powder or granular material and of which the outlet is connected to a main pipe (20) which is substantially horizontal and provided with at least one opening (27), characterized in that each opening (27) is associated to a valve (26) and in that said device comprises porous means (33) separating the main pipe (20) into an upper channel (43) conveying the powder or granular material and into a lower channel (44) which is supplied with compressed air by supply means (5, 7) and control means (56, 48) to control the intermittent opening of each valve (26), the opening time being sufficiently short with respect to the closing time in order to maintain substantially constant the pressure inside the container (1). Application to the supply of powder or granular material to the molten steel surface in a continuous casting system.
