The subject of the invention relates to a funicular drive device with fixed chains for reduced travel. It consists of the combination of two chains 2 with fixed independent rollers, tensioned on antagonistic springs 10, 11 each passing over a traction gear 14 and deflection gears 15, 16 with a cable for controlling the speed and dropping. It is intended for transporting individuals and loads more particularly for private properties whose slopes to be climbed do not exceed about fifty metres and whose loads may reach five hundred kilos. <IMAGE>
