PURPOSE:To prepare the titled compound which is a useful raw material for polymers, by partially hydrogenating isoprene in the presence of a catalyst consisting of a Co compound, organophosphine compound, organoaluminum compound and halogenated boron compound. CONSTITUTION:Isoprene is partially hydrogenated to give 3-methylbutene-1. In the process, the hydrogenation is carried out in the presence of a catalyst consisting of (1) a cobalt compound, e.g. cobalt chloride or cobalt sulfate, (2) an organophosphine compound, e.g. triphenylphosphine, (3) an organoaluminum compound, e.g. trimethylaluminum, and (4) a halogenated boron compound, e.g. boron trifluoride. EFFECT:The aimed compound can be produced from isoprene which is an inexpensive raw material selectively in high yield at a sufficiently high reaction rate. |
