Height-measuring and marking instrument for measuring and/or marking workpieces, consisting of an instrument base which can be displaced at or on a straightening plate, an instrument column which is perpendicular to the straightening plate and on which a compound rest, which supports a transverse arm that can be displaced in the longitudinal direction, is guided vertically, there being arranged between the instrument column and the instrument base a supporting brace which has a clamping device to which a control/regulating device is supplied in order to enable compensation of the bending of the instrument column caused as a function of the overhang of the transverse arm.
