A vaporising burner for heating devices, in particular vehicle heating devices, operated with fluid fuel, contains a rod heater plug known per se which penetrates a carrier for an absorbent body which can be supplied with fuel and the absorbent body itself. The free end of the rod heater plug protrudes over the carrier and the absorbent body and projects into the combustion chamber of the vaporising burner. Such an arrangement permits the fuel of the combustion chamber for operating the heating device to be fired with less heat loss and thus more favourably in terms of performance. The rod heater plug is expediently arranged off centre with respect to the surface of the carrier and/or of the absorbent body and is preferably arranged inclined. If the vaporising burner has a further, axially extending absorbent support, the rod heater plug has [lacuna] preferably in the junction area between the absorbent body and radially extending further absorbent support in order to permit a more effective ignition of the fuel. Preferably, the rod heater plug is surrounded by an air gap in order to ensure an effective vaporising of the fuel at the absorbent body.
