A description is given of a building element for finishing-work purposes in the interiors of buildings, in particular for fair and shop construction purposes. The building element is distinguished in that it is configured as a round or polygonal elongate wire cage which comprises a multiplicity of longitudinal wires, arranged at regular and/or irregular intervals, and a multiplicity of annular wires which are at regular and/or irregular intervals and connect the longitudinal wires to one another. In a preferred embodiment, the building element has a polygonal cross-section and long and short polygonal sides which are arranged alternately. <IMAGE>
