The catching device serves for preventing a rolling, sectional or such like door, which can be wound onto a winding drum by a motor, from crashing down. The catching device has a gear arranged between the motor and the winding drum. The gear is designed as a reduction gear, and on its input side is arranged a mechanical braking device which drops in as a function of the rotational speed.
