PURPOSE:To smoothy perform the attachment and detachment of a cassette without contacting the same with other parts, by attaching a thermal head to a carriage in a state freely movable in an up-and-down direction to move the same between the position opposed to a thermal transfer ink ribbon and the position lower than said position. CONSTITUTION:In such a state that a sensor 20 is detecting the ink of a thermal transfer ink ribbon 5, a head mount member 25 moves to the position, where a thermal head 18 is opposed to the thermal ink ribbon 5, by the rotation of a motor 28 to the counterclockwise direction CCW and fixed at said position. When a cassette 4 is detached from a carriage 11 or the sensor 20 does not detect the ink coating part of the thermal transfer ink ribbon 5, the output signal of a comparator 31 changes and a drive circuit 32 allows a motor 28 to rotate to the clockwise direction CW and the head mount member 25 is moved to the lower position where the thermal head 18 is not opposed to the thermal transfer ink ribbon 5 and fixed at said position. By this method, the attachment and detachment of the cassette 4 can be smoothly performed. |
