Hot-strip coils, in particular scrap coilbox coils arising in hot wide-strip mills, are uncoiled and straightened economically and by technically simple means in order to be able to lay them down as plates and make use of them as usable and saleable sheet. To do this, the coil is placed in a coil frame, a pulling means is attached to the hot strip, the coiled strip is at least partially uncoiled from the coil by means of the pulling means, and the uncoiled start of the strip is introduced into a roller straightening machine until it is grasped by the straightening rolls and pulled into the roller straightening machine.
