The die head on extruders for thermoplastic and thermosetting compositions is designed to be capable of opening in various ways in order to make the inner flow channels leading to the die ring with the extruder die more accessible for cleaning purposes. The opening mechanism of such so-called hinged die heads must be able to receive the comparatively high melt pressures without destruction and also without impermissible deformations, always leading to very robustly dimensioned designs with the disadvantages of high weights, high production costs and restricted accessibility. The invention avoids the strength requirements by supporting the pivotable die head parts against the fixed head by means of elastically resilient spring elements, preferably in the form of pressure medium cylinders.
