PURPOSE:To discriminate distinctly scrap and non-defective slabs and to improve the yield of the slabs by tracking the abnormal quality parts which are generated during casting and are made into scrap and combining the cast steel to the specific slabs. CONSTITUTION:The abnormality in the uncut slab length from the meniscus to the front end position of the uncut slab is detected by a detecting means 8 and is inputted to a calculation and control device 10 which tracks the position thereof. The device 10 calculates the relative positions of the abnormal parts D, E, F in the strand and discriminates whether the distances lDE and lEF between the abnormal parts are below the min. length lmin. of the irregular length slabs or not. The abnormal quality parts are made into scrap when said distances are below the min. length lmin. The various slabs are drawn by controlling a cutting machine 6 according to the prescribed cutting schedule when said distances are above the min. length lmin. |
