Pigs are fed during the weaning period with a combination of a fluid mixture having a high content of available protein and a solid basic feed high in carbohydrate, and the ratio between available protein and other feed constituents, in particular carbohydrate, is adjusted at least substantially daily and preferably at each feeding, to the development of the digestion system of the pigs. Adjustment is performed by varying the ratio between the fluid protein-rich mixture and the solid basic feed. The fluid mixture may be made from e.g. blood, slaugtherhouse waste, partially digested intestine content from slaugtherhouses, household food waste, industrial protein waste, fish pulp, whey, yeast cream, skim milk and casein waste. Feeding is performed according to the mouthful principle. |
