The method detects insulatthod aults in at least one wire in an electrified installation 1. It uses a power supply 6, means of excitation 7 and a transformer 2 whose primary is connected to the power supply and whose secondary supplies the network of electrified wires. One feature of the method is that, instead of directly analysing the characteristics of the current flowing in the secondary circuit, the effects of insulation faults in the secondary circuit on the current flowing in the primary are detected.
