The present invention relates to a combustible charge. The charge according to the invention consists of a mass 1 of charcoal corresponding to the useful charge of a barbecue and enclosed in a combustible leaktight envelope 2 and, preferably, the charge is fitted with at least one ignition device 4 consisting of a wick or an oblong mass of a combustible material having a high gross calorific value, such as solidified alcohol, which is partially embedded in the mass of charcoal 1 and capable of being ignited by direct contact or through the envelope 2 without opening the latter.
