Expandable riveting assembly 10 which comprises an expandable hollow rivet 20 made from plastic and a plastic pin 22 for the latter. The rivet has a head and a body 24 which can be introduced into the aligned holes of the parts 16, 18 which are to be assembled. The pin 22 has a head 42 and a body which may be introduced into the aperture 28 of the rivet and which is adapted so as to be pulled axially inside the aperture 28 of the latter by a tool which presses the head of the pin against the entry end of the rivet 20 and which gives rise to an expansion of the wall of the body 24 of the rivet, as well as rupture of the superfluous projecting end of the body of the pin. The body 20 of the pin has, near its head 42, a reinforced part which presses against a part of reduced diameter of the aperture 28 of the rivet 20, so as temporarily to hold the pin 22 and the rivet 20 together before use. <IMAGE>
