The invention relates to a packaging method. At least one annular end fold 1 is produced on a tubular sheath 2, for example made from plastic film. Firstly, the free end 4 is seized and then a relative displacement of the free end 4 relative to the actual sheath 5 is performed on that side where the sheath is located, and, finally, the free end 4 is released. The device for implementing the method comprises means 13a, 13b for seizing at least the free end of the sheath and means 14 for relative displacement of the seizing means relative to the means for holding the actual sheath.
