A description is given of a furniture item for sitting or lying on, having a pull-out unit which, optionally, reaches partially under a backrest and can be pulled out from beneath the same, having a supporting or bearing device, the pull-out unit being optionally lowerable in its rear region with the supporting or bearing device at the start of its extending movement and liftable again in the further course of the extending movement, which supporting or bearing device has at least one support which is articulated such that it can pivot forwards in the front region of the furniture frame and is pivotably connected to the pull-out unit or sitting or lying surface, which is characterised in that the support takes the form of a bar, in particular a straight bar, which runs from its centre of gravity on the furniture frame obliquely rearwards and upwards in the sitting position and obliquely forwards and upwards in the lying position to the articulation point situated at its other end, in which the bar has connected to a cushion forming the sitting or lying surface or to a cheek carrying the sitting or lying surface and supported such that it can optionally be extended in the furniture frame or to a bearing part of the pull-out unit and supports these latter in a load-bearing manner, the articulation point of the bar optionally being situated in the preferably front third of the lateral end region of the pull-out unit or of the sitting or lying surface, in particular on the lateral outer wall of the cushion or cheek.
