The invention relates to a compression moulding device for fibrous material, which conveys the material to be moulded into a compression head having a compression channel, in which a compressed rod is formed, the compression channel being delimited by a profiled section which extends radially or in a helical manner and being bounded on the outlet side by a smooth annular surface which is inclined in the conveying direction. The bounding wall (7) of the compression channel (6) can advantageously be concave on the outlet side; a mandrel may also be inserted centrally in the compression channel (6), which mandrel is provided with a thread on the inlet side and is smooth on the outlet side. In a preferred embodiment, a control device can be provided which modifies the speed of rotation of the conveying worm and the compression head in accordance with signals from a temperature sensor. The device can be used to produce pressed articles which are more stable, expending a smaller amount of energy than has hitherto been possible. <IMAGE>
