The device, particularly intended for controlling admission of distilled water to the cell of an electric battery, comprises a first element 10 which, in conjunction with a cap 13 and a second element 25, defines a chamber 20 having an inlet 11 and a suction connection 12. A channel 17 in the element 10 and a skirt 27 on the element 25 combine to define a U- trap. A rim 18 of the channel 17 provides a weir over which liquid can flow to a container 31 through outlets (not shown) in a projection 28 of the element 25. A vent passage 36 extends through the element 28 and opens into the chamber 20 and the container 31.
