An on-board network supply system, which is mounted on a goods vehicle, consists of a diesel engine 18 and an alternator which supplies an output voltage of 215 volts at 400 Hz. A DC electric motor 44 is used as the traction motor, which drives the rear wheels 50 via a propeller shaft 46. The DC motor is driven by the alternator 20 via rectifiers 24, 36 and suitable control and monitoring devices. The normal traction motor, in the form of an internal-combustion engine with transmission, is omitted. <IMAGE>
