A universal shut-off fitting, characterised in that a soft-coated shut-off element in the form of a truncated cone or a hemisphere or half a barrel, with a cylindrical or prismatic lower notch and an upper cylindrical extension or a solid sphere with a cylindrical passage with two perforated wedge gate plates on both sides, is forcibly raised, turned, opened and lowered and vice versa by an s-shaped guide and, in all cases, whether in the open or in the closed state of the fitting, is pressed firmly into a seat and thus covers the sealing strips and prevents encrustation.
