The invention relates to a process camera having a vacuum retaining system which is arranged on a stage (3) for accommodating a film (4) or original (6) and has a plate (10) preferably consisting of glass or the like. In a known process camera, the retaining element is constructed as a rigid hinged cover, and the interspace between the hinged cover and plate can be evacuated by means of a vacuum pump. In the case of a retaining element configured in this way, manipulation is relatively time-consuming, and it is virtually scarcely possible to carry out automation of the working operations when introducing the film or original. It is therefore the object of the invention to develop the process camera with a low outlay on design to the effect that operation can be carried out in a simple way and automatic control can be undertaken. In order to achieve this object, it is proposed that the retaining element is constructed as a web (12) which can be wound onto a roller (13), that the roller (13) is arranged so as to be capable of being moved along the surface of the plate (11) by means of a drive unit, and that the web (12) is fastened with one end to the roller (13) and with its other end to the stage (3). <IMAGE>
