The process for chemical-thermal treatment of steel workpieces while producing a coating consists in diffusion saturation of the workpiece material with a substance, namely an intermetallic compound from a liquid-metal solution on the basis of a low-melting metal such as sodium or lithium, at a temperature from 720 to 820 DEG C over a time sufficient to produce a coating of a predefined thickness.
