The invention relates to a method of assembling two non-coplanar wooden components (1 and 2) by inserting a tenon (1a, 1b), which is formed on one end of a first component (1), into a mortise (2a, 2b) which is provided in the second component (2). The method consists in the fact that, on the one hand, a grating-shaped mortise (2a, 2b) is made in the second component (2), which mortise (2a, 2b) has webs (2b) and recesses (2a) which alternate in these components, and in that, on the other hand, slots (1a) with webs (1b) between them are made in the tenon (1a, 1b) of the first component (1), the slots and webs being formed in such a way that they can engage in the webs (2b) and recesses (2a) respectively of the mortise (2a, 2b) of the second component (2), and in that, finally, the two wooden components (1 and 2) are joined together by adhesive being applied to the surfaces in subsequent contact, after which the tenon (1a, 1b) of the first component (1) engages in the mortise (2a, 2b) of the second component. The invention is especially suitable for making furniture joints in which one part is self-supporting, such as, for example, the seat of a chair or a step. <IMAGE>
