The present invention relates to a modification of a squirrel-cage asynchronous motor in order to match it to the requirements for actuating drives and positioning drives. According to the invention, the asynchronous motor has two stator-rotor sets which operate with contrarotating rotating fields. The rotors of the two stator-rotor sets are coupled to one another. The level of coupling of the first and second stator-rotor sets can be controlled by controlling the load acting on the stator and rotor windings. In consequence, continuous high-torque positioning of the asynchronous motor according to the invention is possible.
