PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ATM switch system that can easily realize cell warrant due to system switching of an ATM switch without the need for conducting it by the ATM switch so as to warrant cells even on the occurrence of a fault in the ATM switch. SOLUTION: A system control section 4 of this ATM switch system transmits a system switching request signal to each of line adaptor sections 1-0 to 1-N on the occurrence of a system switching instruction of ATM switches 2, 3. Upon the receipt of the system switching request signal, the line adaptor sections 1-0 to 1-N stops transmission of a valid cell to the ATM switches 2, 3 and informs the system control section 4 of a system switching reply signal denoting that the transmission of the valid cell is stopped. When the system control section 4 receives the system switching reply signal, the control section 4 recognizes it that the preparation of system switching is ready an uses the system control signal after taking timing to execute the system switching. In this case, even when the system control section 4 cannot receive all of the system witching reply signal, the control section 4 can execute the system switching by means of time overflow or the like.
