2,3,5,6-Tetrasubstituted p-benzoquinones of the formula I <IMAGE> I where R is bromine, C2-C6-acylthio or benzoylthio, their preparation and their use for the preparation of 4,8-dihydrobenzo[1,2-c:4,5-c']dithiophene-4,8-dione are described.
