In the case of an electrical circuit breaker for large currents, which is provided with main contacts (1, 1') and extinguishing contacts (2, 3) and has a magnetic coil (6), at least one of the extinguishing contacts (2, 3) contains ferromagnetic material. The extinguishing contacts are attracted electromagnetically as a result of which a high contact force of the extinguishing contacts (2, 3) is achieved using simple technical means, without having to expend a large amount of energy in order to separate the extinguishing contacts (2, 3). This extinguishing contact arrangement having a magnetic coil can be used in various types of circuit breakers, which are known per se, for large currents. Use in the case of circuit breakers which already contain a magnetic coil, for example an arc rotation coil (6), for other reasons is structurally particularly simple. <IMAGE>
