PURPOSE:To prevent deformation of a film due to heat by actuating intermittently a light source and constituting the titled reader that a part of a picture is read by one lighting to reduce the power consumption. CONSTITUTION:When start of operation is commanded by an operation switch, a motor M1 is turned, the position of a film 4 is subjected to initially set to a read start position and a charging capacitor in a strobo lighting circuit 104 is charged. Then a motor M2 is rotated in a driver circuit 103 to move a filter 6R to a position opposite to a CCD line sensor 7. Then an electric charge stored in the CCD line sensor 7 is cleared to emit the strob lighting device 1 and the line sensor 7 starts charging the electric charge at the same time. When a predetermined time T (e.g., 10msec) if elapsed, the strobo lighting device 1 stops lighting. Then picture information of the red component for one line's share is read by the CCD line sensor 7.
