PURPOSE:To prevent a load exerted on a supply member from being changed rapidly by providing a slack when a non-recording part of cutoff recording paper to make the drive state correspond to the slow start of a recording paper set part. CONSTITUTION:The cutoff recorded part 20b is discharged onto a tray 8 and the tip of a non-recorded part 20a of a recording paper roll 1 is returned to a position between a recording head 3 and a platen roller 4 in preparing for the next recording. An electromagnetic clutch 13 is inactivated in this case, the recording paper is returned by the rotation of the platen roller 4 and a slack is produced between the recording head 3 and a carrier roller 2. Then the signal is recorded with the relation of V1>V2 (V1-V2 0), where V1 is a recording paper feeding speed of the platen roller 4 and V2 is a recording paper feeding speed of the carrier roller 2. In recording the signal in this state, the slack between the carrier roller 2 and the recording paper roll 1 is decreased gradually, no rapid load increase is caused on the platen roller 4 and the recording paper 20 is being carried stably.
