摘要 PURPOSE:To insert an optical fiber bundle into a jacket pipe without disordering an array of optical fiber element wires by interposing a sheet of a small-friction blank material between the jacket glass pipe and optical fiber bundle. CONSTITUTION:The optical fiber bundle 1 formed by arraying numbers of optical fiber element wires 1a regularly in parallel is inserted into the jacket glass pipe 2 to manufacture the image fiber base material. In this case, the low-friction blank material sheet 5 is stuck on the internal surface of the jacket glass pipe 2 and the optical fiber bundle 1 is slid on the surface of the sheet 5 inside the pipe and fallen by gravitation. Consequently, the optical fiber elements wires 1a arrayed in parallel never slide on one another because the coefficient of friction of glass among the optical fiber element wires is larger than that between the glass and thin sheet 5, and the bundle is inserted into the jacket glass pipe 2 without deforming in shape; and only sheet 5 is lifted up to obtain the image fiber base material.
