The invention relates to a method for laying small flat roofing elements, especially slates, onto battens. This method employs flat elements 1, 1' pierced right through by a single hole arranged in the middle of its upstream upper end in contact with one of the battens, as well as fasteners 7, 7' with projecting flanges, so that each flat element 1, 1' is fastened to two consecutive battens 2, 4 at three points 7, 7' disposed in a triangle, and by its upstream upper part. The invention also relates to the device permitting the implementation of the method and comprising special clip nails or hook clamps 7, 7'.
