PURPOSE:To enable high quality printing, by constituting such a three-layered structure that an intermediate layer containing substance generating abrupt thermal expansion at predetermined temp. is provided between a substrate and ink. CONSTITUTION:An ink ribbon is constituted of heat-meltable ink softened or melted by heat, an intermediate layer 22 and a substrate 23. The intermediate layer 22 consists of a thermally expanding material abruptly expanded at predetermined temp. or by heating and a binder and, as the thermally expanding material, a self-oxidizable compound is designated. The ink heated by a thermal head 31 is softened and expanded by gas generated by the thermal decomposition of the blowing material in an intermediate layer 35 and the ink reaches even the part of recording paper 32 not contacted with ink 34 and the adhesion of the ink in a heated region is secured. |
