The regulator consists of inductances (L1,L2,L3) in series with the supply leads (1,2,3) of an AC asynchronous motor (44) driving a load (45). Each inductance is connected in parallel to a control element (11,22,33), which can work independently of each other. The corresp. inductances can be switched out progressively without steps, or in steps. Thus effecting a voltage control of the phases of the asynchronous motor and hence a control of the transmitted torque and r.p.m. of the motor. Within a wide range the r.p.m. can be varied from standstill to the highest r.p.m. The control element can take the form of a relay or diodes. The rotors of the motors are made of soft steel.
