The damper is used to limit the oscillations of a bogie cross bar. The damper has a vertical surface(28) which rubs against the vertical surface(20) of the cross-bar casing, and an inclined surface(40) which rubs against the guiding surface (44) of the cross-bar. A wear indicating recess is provided in the vertical surface of the damper(2). This indicating recess(48) is located under the higher wall(38) of the cross-bar, as long as the damper(26) stays in a permissible state of wear. The indicating recess projects beyond the higher wall of the cross-bar, so that it is plainly visible, when the vertical and inclined surfaces of the damper are so worn that they must be reconditioned.
