PURPOSE:To improve the decrease in contrast when an electrochromic display device is subjected to a high-temp. durability test for a long period by using the laminate of at least two layers consisting of iridium hydroxide or oxide and a transparent solid conductive layer sandwiched between said layers. CONSTITUTION:The electrochromic display device consists of a transparent display electrode A, a reduction-colorable electrochromic layer B, and if necessary, a transparent conductive layer C, an iridium hydroxide or oxide layer D and a counter electrode E. The layer D of such display device is constituted of the laminate D' of at least two transparent layers D1 consisting of the oxide or hydroxide of 1 or >=2 kinds of the metals selected from Ir, Ru, Os, Rh, Pt, Pd and Ni and the transparent solid conductive layer D2 disposed therebetween. A cation necessary for coloration of the above-described B or a cation supply source which releases the cation when impressed with voltage is incorporated into at least one layer of the B, C, D1 and D2. |
