PURPOSE:To provide a melamine molding material having excellent resistance to cracking and insert cracking, a low specific gravity and good appearance, consisting of a melamine resin and polyvinyl butyral. CONSTITUTION:A melamine molding material (A) (e.g. melamine/phenolic resin) contg. no component B is crushed in a ball mill. 1-15wt% (thermoplastic) polyvinyl butyral (B) and optionally additives (C) such as pigment, hardener (e.g. carboxylate ester), org. filler, inorg. filler, plasticizer, parting agent, etc. are mixed with the crushed component A. The resulting intermediate product is pulverized in an extruder to obtain a melamine molding material contg. polyvinyl butyral.
