PURPOSE:To obtain the titled metallic powder without being affected by an atmosphere and the temp. and capable of forming electrodes at low cost by coating the surface of the metallic powder for forming electrodes with a surface layer of a metal having an appropriate diffusion velocity and which does not form a compd. in an atmosphere at the temp. at which electrodes are formed. CONSTITUTION:The metallic powder for forming electrodes contains W, Mo, Co, Ni, Fe, Ti, Pd, etc. for high-temp. calcination and Be, Cu, etc. for low-temp. calcination and has mean particle size in the range of about 0.1mum-1mm. in radius. A surface layer consisting of metals, having larger self-diffusion velocity than the diffusion velocity of said metallic powder, consisting of Ru, Rh, Pt, etc. for high-temp. calcination and Ag, Au, etc. for low-temp. calcination, and which do not form a compd. in the atmosphere at a temp. at which electrodes are formed, if formed on the surface of said metallic powder by plating, etc. to obtain the metallic powder for forming electrodes by which an electrode can be formed at low cost either at high temps. or at low temps. in the atmosphere or in reducing atmosphere. A pasty material for forming electrodes can be obtained by blending said metallic powder with a paste-forming agent such as frit and paste.
