PURPOSE:To improve the dispersibility of magnetic powder and to obtain a magnetic recording medium having excellent wear resistance and durability by providing a magnetic layer contg. a beef tallow diamine and lecithin together with the magnetic powder and binder as essential components to said medium. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic layer contg. the mixture composed of the beef tallow diamine expressed by the formula (R is a stearyl group or a mixture composed of the stearyl group and oleyl group) at 0.5-5pts.wt. by 100pts.wt. the magnetic powder and the lecithin in the (9:1)-(5:5) weight ratio of the lecithin with the beef tallow diamine is formed on the non-magnetic substrate to manufacture the magnetic recording medium. The beef tallow diamine and lecithin improve the uniform dispersibility of the magnetic powder in the binder resin and improve the wear resistance and durability thereof. The magnetic layer having stable characteristics under various environmental conditions is formed and the excellent magnetic recording medium is obtd.
