A wall paper stripping composition comprises 3 to 5 wt. parts of sodium sesquicarbonate and 2 to 3.5 wt. parts of starch. The composition can be made up in situ into an aqueous solution by mixing with hot water. The solution is then coated onto the wall covering to be stripped, and left to soak, the covering then being stripped off in the usual way with hot water. The composition of the invention is particularly suitable for stripping washable or emulsion over-painted wall papers or embossed wall coverings, which are impervious to conventional aqueous stripping solutions. |
