A radial tire for trucks and buses which includes a tread portion formed of five circumferential zig-zag ribs, separated by four circumferential grooves, wherein the average width of the two shoulder ribs is 30 to 38 percent of the total tread width, which in turn has a width of 65 to 75 of the inflated tire section width; the tread portion having a contour including a central zone and two equal outer zones whose radii of curvature are 195 to 230 percent and 150 to 185 percent of the section width of the tire respectively, in its inflated state; wherein the widest supporting ply of the reinforcing belt structure has a width of 90 to 100 percent of the tread width and wherein the aspect ratio of the tire, in its inflated state, is above 82 percent.
