PURPOSE:To record multicolored picture images at a high speed, by providing plural marking units on the outer periphery of a transfer drum at prescribed intervals and successively performing transfer at a prescribed timing. CONSTITUTION:The picture information of an original 51 read by a picture image reader 52 is stored in a memory and transfer paper of a designated size is fed from one of transfer paper trays 55a-55c. The fed transfer paper is attracted to the surface of a transfer drum 53 by electrostatic force and a laser exposure device 58a generates a beam at the timing when the front end of the paper reaches a marking unit 54a. Then exposure and cyan developing are performed at the marking unit 54a in accordance with the picture information of red components and the 1st transfer using cyan is performed. Another exposure by means of another laser exposure device 58b is performed at the timing when the cyan image reaches another marking unit 58b in accordance with the picture information of green components at the marking unit 54b. Successively the 3rd transfer of yellow is performed in the same way.
