PURPOSE:To control the running speed of an external device connected to a tape recorder by switching stepwise the running speed at tape recorder recording and outputting a control signal in response to the selected running speed. CONSTITUTION:When a speed changeover switch 1 of a tape recorder A is switched to the double speed, an input to the switch 1 is fetched to a CPU3 through a speed changeover circuit 2, the CPU3 outputs the double speed information to a mechanism drive circuit 5 so as to drive a mechanism 6 in double speed. Then an external output control circuit 7 is driven at the same time and an H signal is outputted to an external output terminal 8. In connecting an input terminal 10 of an external device B to the terminal 8 by a connecting cord 9, the recorder A and the device B are run in the synchronized speed. Thus, when the speed of the recorder A is doubled, the device B runs in double speed and the content of the device B is recorded on the recorder A in the double speed.
