PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide high strength high toughness spheroidal graphite cast iron which has a matrix essentially consisting of pearlite, and has high strength and high toughness. SOLUTION: The high strength high toughness spheroidal graphite cast iron has a composition containing, by weight, 3.0 to 4.6% carbon, 1.6 to 2.5% silicon, 0.2 to 0.6% manganese, 0.02 to 0.05% magnesium, 0.0004 to 0.090% zirconium and one or two kinds selected from tin and copper, and in which, provided that the content expressed in terms of tin (the content expressed in terms of tin is the wt.% of tin plus the weight % of copper×0.1) is defined asα,αis 0.01 to 0.06%, and the balance iron with inevitable impurities.
