PURPOSE:To obtain a developer capable of expediting color formation of a methine-based coloring matter with high densities, by using a specified benzoquinone derivative. CONSTITUTION:A developer for pressure-sensitive thermal recording papers is represented by the formula (where R1 is an alkyl or cycloalkyl group and R2 is a phenyl, naphthyl, aralkyl, alkyl, or cycloalkyl group, which may have a halogen atom, or an alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkoxy, aryloxy, alkylene, or phenyl group). In the pressure-sensitive or thermal recording paper using the developer and a methine-based coloring matter, obtained color pictures have a high fastness to light, heat, and polar solvents. The initial color-forming speeds are high and high-density color pictures can be obtained. |
