摘要 PURPOSE:To improve reliability of control, by a method wherein, when, based on detecting values of an own vehicle speed and a distance-between-vehicle-bodies, an own vehicle running following a preceding vehicle is controlled, during input of an unsuitable vehicle speed signal, a given unsuitable time control is effected. CONSTITUTION:A device is provided with a vehicle speed detection means 1 which outputs a vehicle speed signal through detection of an own vehicle speed, and a distance measuring means 3 which detects a distance-between-vehicles signal through detection of a distance between a preceding vehicle and the own vehicle. Based on the vehicle speed signal and the distance-between-vehicle- bodies signal, a vehicle speed is controlled by a vehicle speed control means 7, and this controls running following the preceding vehicle. In which case, in a discriminating means 5, the unsuitableness of a case speed signal is discriminated based on an amount of a fluctuation produced along with lapse of a time of a vehicle speed signal. When the fluctuation amount exceeds a given value, based on only a newest own vehicle speed, control of a vehicle speed is effected, and when an unsuitable signal generating time continues for a given time or more, control is effected to release vehicle speed control.
